The Mahatta River flows westwards from O'Connell Lake into Quatsino Sound on the northwest coast of Vancouver Island.

This remote river has resident cutthroat trout and supports a good summer steelhead run during June and July, with coho salmon runs in the fall. Fishing the bushy riverbanks is most productive.

Access to the Mahatta River is over rough logging roads from the northern town of Port Alice.

Nearest Town: Port Alice

Nearest Lake: O'Connell Lake

Nearest Park: Lawn Point Provincial Park

Additional Info: Camping facilities are available at recreation sites on the Mahatta River and at O'Connell Lake.
